Havens Hits Paydirt at Springport

With the members of the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club in attendance, the stars of Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway came out for a beautiful night of racing.

The first feature of the evening was the first ever appearance for the CRS Super Truck Series to the Springport oval. Mike Brooks would lead the way in the opening portion of the race, but 13 year old up and comer Carson Lucas would stalk him around the track. The two would battle around the track, until they made contact coming off of turn four. Brooks would nearly spin but would save the truck in an amazing display of driving, but this would allow Lucas to get by and go on to take the win. Brooks was second, with Joe Biddinger, Matt Wilson, and Brad Copen. Lucas was also fastest in qualifying with a 16.722.

The Dragon Racing Fuel Street Stocks would put on a great show, with an emotional favorite taking the win at his home track. Jackson, Michigan driver Mike Havens would win his first feature in several seasons at Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway. He would have to hold off Colin Bozell looking to win his second straight feature win, but it would be an unsuccessful endeavor. Race Bible locked up another podium finish, with Aaron Newman and Aaron Taylor completing the top five. Makenna Long and Havens won the heat races with Bozell setting fast time with a 16.740

The AutoLab Late Model Sportsman were next up to go to battle for a $1500 to win feature. Matt Stanton would lead the field down to the start, but the star of the show was once again Jerry Pierman. The graduate of the Dragon Racing Fuel Street Stocks managed to stay out in front despite challenges from several drivers throughout the duration, but he would go on to take his second victory of the season. Buddy Head was second, with Kenny Head, Lane Head, and Matt Stanton completed the top five. Pierman and John Trudell took heat race wins with Buddy Head setting the mark in qualifying with a 15.837.

The Port Stocks would close out the night with their two features. First up would be the B Feature, which would see Ryan Ward take his first win of the season, withstanding Mike Rose, two-time winner Brad Robison, Dillon Rose and Tim Lyon. The A Feature would see some late race excitement with Gord Alblas narrowly taking his second win of the season, overcoming a strong performance by Tyler Reading. Ryan Drumhiller, Gavin McGuffey, and Bryan Gates finished off the top five. Heat races were won by Tim Lyon, Mike Rose, Shawn Osborne, and Tyler Reading. Ryan Hollister set the mark in qualifying with a 17.726.

The T&N Dairy Kreme Mini Wedges were in action earlier in the day on the .072 mile dirt oval. In the Junior Division Peyton Robison won the feature over Ashlynn Poniatowski, and Kinsley Morrill. The Junior Division heats were won by Ashlynn Poniatowski (twice), and Kinsley Morrill. In the Senior division it was Gretchen Hopwood taking the win over Abbey Meyers, and Hunter Pierman. Heats were won by Gretchen Hopwood (twice), and Bobby Johnson.
